WHILE EVERYONE WAS SLEEPING
In the Parable of the Weeds, Jesus says in Matthew 13:24, "The Kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed
good seed in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went
away." It should not surprise us that the enemy came at night while everyone was sleeping. Our adversary, the
devil, works well in the night. After all, he is the Prince of Darkness. Jesus said in John 3:19 "men loved
darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil."
There is much evil that is attacking our land and especially in the church. Evil creeps into the church with an
ill-prepared leadership, a Bible-less pulpit, and unwillingness to stand for Biblical truth, and an emphasis on
being like the world and not being separate as the Bible teaches. If the elders in our churches are asleep, and the
preacher is asleep, weeds will overrun the church.
Jesus gives the answer for a sleepy society. He says, "Watch and pray!" We Americans must be awake and
alert. If not, the enemies of our Republic will steal our God-given freedoms. The church must also always watch and
pray. After all, Paul says in 1 Timothy 3:15 that the church is "the pillar and foundation of the truth."
We are the keepers of the truth. It is only His truth that will set men free.
While wheat and weeds grow together in this life Christians must be ever watchful and alert. 1 Peter 5:8 says,
"Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to
devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith...." Let’s not go to sleep at the wheel.
